Superintendent's
Pocket Book of Safety ChecklistsOne of the tools a superintendent can
use on a construction project is to keep track of safety compliance and
hazard abatement, is a safety checklist. Since checklists on
clipboards or in binders can be cumbersome on a jobsite, this booklet is
designed to fit in a pocket so the checklists are available whenever needed.
Since it is bound, it can be easily stored with a daily log so that it is
available in the event of a dispute or other legal entanglement. There
is a place on the title page to insert the superintendent's name and a date
range of included checklists.

Multi-Employer
Safety Citation PolicyIf you are a General Contractor, you are
responsible for the safety performance of your subcontractors and their
subcontractors - so says the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA).
In fact, the "controlling contractor" may be cited for the same hazard(s)
for which the subcontractor is cited. This booklet explains the differences
between creating contractors, exposing contractors, correcting contractors
and controlling contractors. All contractors should be aware of their

Pragmatism: A new
name for some old ways of thinking.William James wrote extensively on
pragmatism. Pragmatism’s premise is that “the truth of an idea can never be
proven,” and James suggests that we focus ourselves on the “cash value” or
usefulness of an idea. I think that this series of lectures on pragmatism
should be required reading for safety professionals. The pragmatic approach
suggested herein by “the Father of American Psychology,” William James, has
great relevance to the way modern safety professionals approach their daily
tasks.

Supervisory Daily ReportsAll workers on
a construction project should keep a daily log noting anything of
significance. Remember, these logs become legal documents that can protect
you and your employer in the event of disputes or other legal entanglements.
From a safety standpoint, you should be sure to make notations when you
instruct an employee or subcontractor on specific safety requirements too.
This documents your attention to safety detail and, in multi-employer
jobsite situations, can protect you from a citation by OSHA. This volume
contains enough forms for one month.
