About Hogan's Safety Seminary

Daniel M. Hogan is the founder and editor of Hogan's Safety Seminary.  In 2006, Hogan saw a need for some specific publications to compliment his training programs, finding that photo copies were not quite adequate.  To address that situation, he started the on-line publishing company Hogan's Safety Seminary.

This publishing company provided cost effective and professional handout materials to compliment classroom education and training and provided good reference materials to pass along to subcontractors.  Several of the subcontractors attending the classes asked where they could purchase the materials and they were made available through this on-line publishing company.

Several additional booklets were added as well as some of the powerpoint training programs used by Hogan.  And recently, new calendar and poster sections have been added.

Mr. Hogan has over 30 years of experience in loss prevention and control, beginning in 1974 as an Airport Safety Officer in upstate New York.  As an airport safety officer, Dan has extensive training and experience in aviation crash/fire/rescue operations, as well as airport operations.  While still employed by Broome County government, Hogan was responsible for safety and loss control for two nursing homes, two sanitary landfills, a medium hub airport, a community college, two jails, a highway department (including fleet and surface mine operations), five county parks, multiple office buildings and office building complexes, a parking garage, a municipal bus transportation garage and operation, a municipal arena, and a performing arts center.  His responsibilities included safety compliance review of plans and specifications for pre-construction activities, and for review of insurance claims against the county.

Hogan also taught safety courses part-time at Broome Community College in their Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene degree program.

In 1985, Hogan took a position as the Safety and Training Director for a regional construction trade association, where he developed and implemented a comprehensive safety and training program for contractor member firms.  He successfully applied for, and implemented an OSHA grant from the federal government for five years.  While there, Hogan provided contractor assistance with training, tool box safety talks, recordkeeping, hazard communication, risk assessment, and site safety inspections.  He also represented contractor members at informal conferences with OSHA, post citation.

In 1986, Hogan was promoted to Executive Director of that same trade association.  His duties expanded to include negotiating collective bargaining agreements on behalf of a multi-employer bargaining unit, legislative activities, and construction industry liaisons.

Six years later, Hogan was recruited by Suit-Kote Corporation, a large highway contractor and liquid asphalt manufacturing concern in upstate New York, to take over their safety and environmental operations.  While there, his responsibilities included safety and environmental compliance for their highway construction operations, eight liquid asphalt product manufacturing facilities, two hot-mix asphalt plants, three quarries and 250 vehicle tank truck fleet operation.

In 1996, Dan moved to Florida to head the fledgling Central Florida Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) - another construction trade association - and lead that operation until moving to Southwest Florida to take a position as the Safety Director for General Contractor and Construction Manager, BBL Florida, LLC.

In 2006, Dan was honored by the Florida Suncoast Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) when he was named "Safety Professional of the Year."  Hogan is an active member of that chapter.  After serving as chapter president, he is currently the chapter "delegate," and programs committee chairman.
